Hanslip Ward and Company was founded by my great grandfather Arthur James Hanslip Ward in 1882. A J H Ward became deeply involved in the old port at Harwich. He became the youngest recorded Mayor at the age of twenty five and undertook appointments including Registrars of The County Court/Birth, Death and Marriages.
|
He was the clerk to The Port Health Authority, The Poor Board and The Justices.

The various public appointments and private practice continued through my grandfather H M A Ward and thereafter my father H M H Ward.

Public appointments became full time leaving the Justices Clerk Office the only Clerkship available when I qualified and joined the partnership in 1972. That appointment gave me practical varied experience in matrimonial, juvenile and criminal law.

The last public appointment undertaken by my company was Clerk to the Tax Commissioners. The tribunal was organised and conducted by me and advice was given on the current law. The appointment recently ended as full time appointment took its place but it gave me good insight into income tax and capital taxes prevailing in the UK.
